Making Way

Lots of truth and magic in Toni Morrison's Beloved (1987). Here's a line from Page 36:

"If a house burns down, it's gone, but the place -- the picture of it -- stays, and not just in my rememory, but out there, in the world."

The District of North Vancouver burned and bulldozed a number of houses on the Maplewood Mudflats in 1970 to make way for a shopping mall that was never built. One of those houses was Tom's.
